The Field
The football field is bounded by long sidelines and short endlines, forming a rectangle that measures 120x53yd (109x49m). The 100yd (91m) between the posts are divided by lines that cross the field every 5yd (4.5m), and are numbered every 10yd (9m). Four rows of hash marks span the length of the field.
The scoring area, also called "End Zone" is bounded by the goal line, the end line, and sidelines.
Goal Posts
The goal posts are positioned on back line of the end zone. The offence can kick a field goal, or a conversion after a touchdown between the two posts. The base is padded for the protection of the player.
NFL Goal Posts are 10 feet high to the cross-member. The overall height to the top of the Goal Post is a minimum of 30 feet and the width between the uprights being 18 feet, 6 inches apart. The Goal Posts can be painted white or Yellow and each post is normally topped off by a 4 inch wide x 42 inch length ribbon.
