The Scoring System

The scoring system is based on a “serving” system, in which one must gain the serve to obtain a point. Having the serve is sometimes considered to be on “offense”. The opponent, who does not have the serve, is considered to be on the defensive and must score to win the serve and then score again to gain a point.

A rally is lost when one of the following occurs:
  • The ball bounces twice
  • The ball hits the tin
  • The ball is hit outside the out lines
  • Interference resulting in a stroke
  • If the ball hits the line it is considered out
  • You can not carry the ball or hit the ball twice

The Point System

The winner of each game is the first player to reach 9 points. An exception is made when the score reaches 8-8 for the first time. In this situation, the receiver may choose to continue that game to 9 or 10 points.
